The exhibition closes on October 8.

Walk Up Gallery (WUG) at The Grocery is excited to present small works by Seattle-based artist, cultural catalyst, and maker Carolyn Hitt, September 10 - October 8. Hitt paints rapidly, layering geometries and bold narrative elements in acrylic, forming dense worlds with recurring characters (UFOs, cities, cats, people, crowns, flora, fauna, the heavens). This series, as much of her work, vibrates with motion and life, hitting the viewer first as a dense whole that unfolds in a frenzy as your eyes traverse the details of the worlds she creates. Hitt works in multiples, pushing herself to new explorations of emotion, color, and form. “Every series has a therapeutic healing element for me.”

Hitt’s prolific creative practice (acting, curating, painting, community building) includes activating community around emerging artists across disciplines. She is motivated by urgency, passionate about rebuilding better and more inclusive systems, and inspired by the promise of creating beyond boundaries. She is the Founder of Blue Cone Studios, co-founder of Forever Safe Spaces, and co-founder of the monthly On The Block art happenings on Capitol Hill and beyond. Find her on the IG at @cmehitt.
